A new year...a new start!

Weekly Blog

Hi there!

Check out our new playground facility - yes, we have a new rope course! The children had tons of fun pulling themselves up while they explore their surroundings. Through climbing, children begin to develop their fine motor skills including dexterity, grip and grasp. These skills can be transferred into the classroom when handwriting because children will find it much easier to hold a pen and pencil correctly. Young children may feel nervous when facing climbing equipment for the first time, but through trial and error and safe risk-taking, children will learn to face their fears and begin taking on new climbing challenges every single day.

With Chinese New Year fast approaching, it is only right that we get prepare for this joyous occasion! The children from the Butterfly class decorated the classroom with ' Fai Chuns' (greeting paper), lions and other bright coloured Chinese New Year decorations. We learned the names of Chinese New Year items which was reinforced in a fun game of Bingo! For our field trip, we walked over to Tai Wo Market to buy ingredients to make delicious turnip cake. Look at them interacting with the market vendors! We can't wait to make some turnip cakes to send home to our loved ones.

The Cocoons and Caterpillars went to Mui Shue Hang this week - our first outing of the year! Our students deserve a big pat on the back this week for hiking on their own! Yes, with minimal help! They also got to balance over big tree roots in the forest while making adventurous discoveries along the way! As it is going to be the year of the 'Rat', we went ahead and made some rat-inspired leaf art. What a great incentive to get the little ones to venture out and explore natural materials at their own pace. Look at these wonderful masterpieces!

Parents - please don't forget to label your child's water bottle and other items like their lunchbox. This is especially important for hygiene reasons so that children are not drinking for each other's water bottles. Thanks!

Have a great week ahead!
